So, you know that awful moment when your friend tells you will love something and you totally dismiss them and they turn out to be RIGHT!!
Basically my friend, Aurelianos gave me Zelda to play as part of a deal. She had to read YA books of my choosing and I had to play Zelda Ocarina of Time. At first I didn’t really like the game, thought it was a bit silly and geeky. But it’s so addictive, I’ve nearly completed the 2nd dungeon and spent most of the weekend playing it. I’m posting this on my blog because I know when I see her tomorrow she’s going to be so happy I like Zelda and it’s better for her to read it here than me have to admit she was right.
So yesterday, I finished my six week course in social psychology with Coursera. I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it. Now I have my final exam which is on Saturday the 28th and if I get a good enough score, I will get a statement of accomplishment from the course lecturer. My new course which I have started is 1920s Hollywood Cinema and my first assignment is to watch the movie Street Angel. Has anyone seen it? It’s a silent film and I have only watched the first part of it, but it’s surprisingly good. I didn’t think I would enjoy it but I was wrong.
So, a couple of weeks ago I discovered MOOCS, Massive Online Open Courses. Moocs are free courses that you can take with universities. There are courses on practically everything and most courses offer a certificate at the end. I have registered for countless moocs, including 1920s Hollywood Cinema with Wesleyan University, Social Psychology with Wesleyan University and Poetry in America: Whitman with Harvard University. The time span of the courses varies but most are six weeks, with an assignment each week and one final test. All the courses are taught with lectures, interactive quizzes and videos. I’m halfway through my Social Psychology class right now, and I’m really enjoying it. What could be better than learning about something interesting, for free, with 400,000 other people around the world and picking up a certificate along the way? So if you have a bit of free time on your hands, I would totally recommend MOOCS.

Oh and we found the receipt for the camera, so we are going to send it off to get repaired. 😉
My camera is BROKEN!!!! I gave it to my dad to use, he gives it back and now it’s not working. So right now the whole house is being turned upside down to find the receipt for it, as it’s still under warranty. 😦
I love the mortal instruments and for that matter the Infernal Devices to. I think they are fantastic books. Cassandra Clare is a genius.
BUT … The Movie is not amazing and I do not love it and Harald Zwart is not a genius – Though he does have his moments – Anyway, here’s what I thought of Mortal Instruments: City of Bones
I really enjoyed some parts of the movie, but I felt they wrecked lots of parts of it. As a massive fan of the book I just didn’t enjoy the movie. Like the greenhouse scene was so cringy, I was actually embarrassed by how bad it was. The Demi Lovato song just did not work with that scene and the way they were eating each others faces, that’s not anything like how it happened in the book. It’s their first kiss, for goodness sake! They spend like 3/4 of the book building up to it and in the movie like 30 minutes in they are playing tonsil tennis. Arrghh ! They just totally mucked up the whole scene ! Also there was way too many cliche moments. Like falling onto each other, staring into each others eyes in the rain. It just annoyed me. I just didn’t get the wow factor like I did with the Hunger Games. Also Clary was a lot more pathetic. In the books she is very capable of looking after herself. However in the movie she does a lot of crying and looking worried well Jace does all the fighting. I mean in the books she slaps Jace! Her personality just wasn’t carried through to screen. Like where was all Jace’s witty quips? The screenwriters put in a few and were like “Oh, that’s Jace” NO! That’s not how it works. It just wasn’t Jace Herondale/Morgenstern/Wayland for me, it was like I was watching a different character. By the way, this was no fault of Jamie Campbell Bower’s, I blame the script. Jamie’s acting actually salvaged what was there. Oh and what happened to the amazing Magnus Bane? one of the best characters in the series. I feel like the screenwriters lost too much of each characters personality.
Rant Over. Sorry Guys just had to get that out my system. Do you agree with me?
Nothing interesting really happened today. However I am determined to write a blog post everyday. Anyway, do you like my new background for my blog? I have a slight obsession with palm trees, for me they just epitomize old Hollywood glamour and good times. Oh, did you hear ?Lana Del Rey is releasing Tropico next month – can’t wait!
So I know this hasn’t been a very good blog post but hopefully something interesting will happen tomorrow that I can write about. Till then, may the force be with you.
So, the awesome new trailer for Divergent was released on Sunday and there is also a fantastic behind the scenes video with cast interviews and new footage. I can’t wait for the Divergent movie to come out. After being let down with the mortal instruments, I have high hopes for Divergent. It looks like they have stayed true to the book which is always my main concern with book-to-screen adaptations. I mean look how they wrecked Beautiful Creatures! Anyway here are the links for the trailer and behind the scenes video.
